4.1 Million Dinars in Penalties Collected from Tardy Government Employees

The Ministry of Finance has collected approximately 4.1 million dinars in penalties and fines from government employees for absenteeism and tardiness, reports Al- Seyassah daily. However, during the last fiscal year, these entities managed to collect a total of 3.027 million dinars in the form of penalties, resulting in a collection rate of 72.1 percent compared to the Ministry of Finance’s initial estimates.

Data from government reports reveals that, in comparison to previous years, the amounts collected in fines from employees reached 1.9 million dinars during the fiscal year 2021/2022. This indicates a significant increase in penalties compared to the preceding year, with an increase of approximately 1.1 million dinars, effectively doubling the value of these penalties.

It’s worth noting that these penalties are deducted from employees based on the number of days of absence and daily late reporting for work measured through fingerprint devices, which are widely deployed in most ministries and government agencies. The Civil Service Commission has approved these devices as essential tools for verifying attendance and departure across all government entities.
