MOI Begins Collection of Unsettled Electricity Bills from Departing Expats

Starting from September 1, 2023, the Ministry of the Interior has initiated the enforcement of a decision aimed at collecting outstanding debts owed by foreign nationals to the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy.

This directive comes in response to the guidance of His Excellency the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency cooperation and coordination for the purpose of debt recovery from foreign nationals before their departure from the country.

Effective immediately, the Ministry of the Interior officially announces the activation of this decision, requiring all foreign nationals intending to depart from the country, regardless of their reason for departure, to settle any outstanding electricity and water bills. This can be accomplished through electronic payment channels available on the Ministry of Electricity and Water’s official application or the “Sahel” application. Alternatively, individuals can settle their debts by visiting designated offices at land and sea border points or at Kuwait International Airport.

The Ministry of the Interior strongly urges everyone to comply with the established legal provisions and refrain from violating these regulations. The Ministry emphasizes its unwavering commitment to maintaining security and public order within the country and will not hesitate to fulfill its duty in this regard.
