Power use rises as it grows hot.

The power consumption index reached 15,515 megawatts recently when the temperature rose to 43 degrees Celsius, reports Al-Qabas daily. So far, this is the highest power consumption recorded since the beginning of summer. It is expected that power consumption will keep on increasing as temperatures continue to rise.

The Ministry of Electricity and Water conducted studies on the power consumption in the current year; and these studies revealed that the expected power consumption peak this summer is 17,000 megawatts. Sources from the ministry confirmed that the country’s power reserve has 2,500 megawatts more than the highest consumption recorded so far; indicating the available electricity is estimated at about 18,000 megawatts.
