The UK Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis affirmed that the number of Kuwaiti scholarship students in Britain is evidence of the deep-rooted cultural relations between the two countries that have passed through successive generations. She said, “We look forward to the continuation and development of these relations through the current and future generations”, reports Al-Qabas daily.
In an interview with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Thursday, Ambassador Lewis revealed that the number of Kuwaiti scholarship students at various university levels in Britain during the 2022/2023 academic year is 7,014, and the number of students studying in Britain on their expenses is 1,500. She praised the active societal role played by Kuwaiti students in her country. Ambassador Lewis explained that the quality of study in Britain is “very high” compared to other countries, given that it has the most prestigious and oldest universities in the world.
Among the privileges that the Kuwaiti students enjoy in Britain are “the multiple flight options that are permanently available, as Kuwait Airways alone has 14 weekly flights to Heathrow Airport.” She called on the students to visit the British Visa Center in Kuwait directly in the event of any inquiries. The ambassador indicated that the “electronic travel permit” scheduled to be implemented next February will not be applied to students who intend to study in British universities, or to other categories of travelers who wish to visit the United Kingdom for a longer period.
She referred to Kuwaiti companies working in cooperation with the British Council in Kuwait, whose main objective is to assist Kuwaiti students in Britain from choosing a program and place of study to carrying out the application procedures through informational meetings and foundational courses. Ambassador Lewis also touched on the developments of the airport crisis in Britain and its impact on tourists particularly Kuwaitis. She stressed that no strike is currently expected, there will be no complications for tourists, and flights will proceed as normal. The ambassador called on tourists to visit Britain and discover its cities to a great extent.
