Divergent Positions Persist as Kuwait and Philippines Negotiate Visa Crisis.

Talks between Kuwait and Manila have commenced with the arrival of a Filipino delegation in an effort to resolve the escalating crisis that resulted in the suspension of visas for Filipino workers last week.

The delegation, consisting of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Overseas Filipino Workers Department, held meetings with Kuwaiti officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the labor department. Their objective was to find a legal solution that satisfies both sides. It should be noted that there are still divergent positions, but officials from both sides are diligently working to bridge the gap. Fortunately, there is agreement on many of the demands put forth by the Philippines, as they are already stipulated in Kuwaiti laws; however, some of these measures need to be implemented.

Based on the current available information, it appears that a prompt solution leading to the resumption of visa issuance for Filipino workers is unlikely, reports Al Rai. Despite the visiting delegation’s assurance that Manila is seriously considering lifting the temporary ban on sending workers to Kuwait, which was imposed last February, there is no indication of an imminent resolution.
