Kuwait Municipality Cracks Down on Black Market Waste Dealers.

Under the directives of Director General Eng. Ahmed Al-Manfouhi, the Kuwait Municipality has dealt a severe blow to the black market dealers involved in stealing waste, sorting it, and then selling it. The municipality succeeded in apprehending the members of the large network involved in this illegal activity, which was ostensibly led by Asian expatriates but actually run by a Kuwaiti citizen working in one of the governorate branches.

After months of monitoring, the municipality inspectors were able to arrest the gang members, and videos and photos found on their phones revealed their conversations with the municipality employee who employed them. The videos showed that the gang controlled the waste sorting market, specifically carton, which cleaners collected, loaded into “half Lorry,” and then sold on the black market, reports Al Rai. When asked, the arrested workers disclosed the names of those who directed them and the amounts they received monthly, which amounted to 600 dinars for each “half lorry” per month.

Upon learning of these facts, Director General Ahmed Al-Manfouhi directed the punishment of all those involved in the illegal activity, if their confessions were found to be true. The cleaning companies were also held accountable for their failure to monitor their workers.

According to sources, a kilo of carton is priced at 70 fils, and a ton is priced at 700 dinars. This means that the lowest monthly income for a single transport vehicle would reach 21,000 dinars if it transported only one ton per day.
