Amid a heavy paramilitary and police presence, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation bulldozed illegal structures in Delhi’s Jahangipuri, which was then stopped a couple of hours following a Supreme Court order. Before the apex court’s order to stop the demolition drive, the civic body had bulldozed a number of temporary shops and structures. On April 16, clashes between two communities were reported from Jahangirpuri during a Hanuman Jayanti procession. A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana ordered a status quo and agreed to hear a petition challenging the action of the civic bodies allegedly aimed against those involved in the April 16 violence.
