Marathon assembly election ends in West Bengal.

Polling for one of the most grueling and long-drawn West Bengal assembly elections concluded on April 29 with an estimated around 80 per cent of over 84.77 lakh voters exercising their franchise. The protracted polls were mired in controversy since the day the Election Commission announced an 8-phase election schedule on February 26, drawing accusation from the ruling TMC that it was aimed at helping the BJP. Large scale rallies in violation of Covid-19 protocols and the eventual surge in cases in the state only added to controversy. Results to the fierce contest between the TMC and the BJP will be declared on May 2.
