MP queries Trump-talk on Israel ties.

MP Mohammad Al-Dallal has forwarded queries to Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad about the recent press statements issued by American President Donald Trump regarding the normalization of ties with Israel. Al-Dallal wants to know if these press statements are in line with the American-Kuwaiti agreement on the issue of normalizing relations with Israel.

He asked if the ministry has communicated with the American side to determine the reasons behind the issuance of such statements.

The lawmaker inquired about the meeting between the American side and the Kuwaiti delegation tasked to receive the Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander awarded to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He asked if their discussion included normalizing relations with Israel and if the delegation was authorized to discuss the issue.

He wants to know the response of the Kuwaiti delegation regarding the issue. He also asked about the reasons that prevented the ministry to issue an official statement in response to the press statements of Trump involving Kuwait in normalizing relations with Israel.

Meanwhile, MPs Osama Al- Shaheen and Muhammad Al- Dallal submitted a proposal to amend the procedures related to the conduct of parliamentary elections stipulated in Law No. 35/1962 in view of the spread of coronavirus. Al-Shaheen disclosed the proposal aims to reduce the crowd of voters by increasing the number of schools allocated for the elections in every constituency and the number of classrooms for this purpose. He said the voting period as per the current regulations starts at 8:00 am and ends at 8:00 pm, indicating this should be extended to prevent crowding at the polling stations.

Since the candidates will not organize gatherings and traditional electoral campaigns due to the current health regulations which include social distancing, the Ministry of Information must allot more time for every candidate to address citizens through Kuwait TV and Radio Kuwait, he added.

According to the proposal, the votes should be counted in the presence of the representatives of every candidate in order to remove any room for doubting the results.

The Ministry of Interior shall coordinate with Kuwait Transparency Society and Kuwait Anti- Corruption Authority (Nazaha) in following up the elections and uncovering violations, the proposal added. National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim and a number of MPs congratulated HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for the prestigious Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander, that American President Donald Trump awarded to him recently.

“As a Kuwaiti citizen, I felt immense pride upon seeing our father and leader, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, receiving such honor represented in the prestigious Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander,” Al- Ghanim said. Al-Ghanim added that His Highness the Amir is a successful and outstanding politician and a noble man rolled into one. He then wished for the speedy recovery and immediate return of His Highness the Amir.

On the other hand, MP Hamad Said Al-Harshani pointed out that His Highness the Amir deserves such honor considering the exceptional role he plays in addressing regional and global issues. He said the award has not been given to any Arab leader since 1974, asserting this emphasizes the importance and value of the award. MP Askar Al-Anzi asserted this is an addition to the previous awards granted to HH the Amir, reflecting the extraordinary history of his diplomatic and political career.
