Ban on family to private sector visa upset expats.

The Public Authority of Manpower (PAM) confirmed that the decision to prohibit the transfer of those on family visas to work permit in the private sector has not yet been officially issued, Al Jarida reports.

The decision is expected to be issued soon, but has raised confusion. The daily reports, quoting sources, that the decision will possibly include some exemptions such as husbands and children of Kuwaiti women, wives of citizens, Palestinian document holders, those born in Kuwait, students at Kuwaiti universities, and other cases.

On the other hand, expats with their families have reacted to the decision with dismay, and believe that the decision will have several negative economic and social repercussions. Expatriate families will have to leave the country, leading to a reduced number and an increase of singles.

The fate of hundreds of children who are enrolled in the various educational schools from primary to university, who are sponsored by their parents, and others are in jeopardy. There is also the trouble of implementing a ban on 60-years and above decision, which has not excluded any group so far, as well as the decision to prohibit the transfer of family visas to the private sector, the regulations are not clear as well? There are foreseeable problems with the decisions, some of which are understood to include expats declining purchasing power, shortage of manpower in some professions and an increase in their wages for Kuwaitis, as well as the negative impact on the real estate market due to mass exodus of expats from apartments, with the implementation of these two aforementioned decisions.
