The Ministry of Education is gearing towards training more than 70,000 Kuwaiti and expatriate teachers on e-learning tools and applications (online education) as part of its preparations for the new academic year which will start in October, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting informed sources.

Sources revealed the ministry is currently preparing a training plan for teachers to guarantee the smooth implementation of the online education system and to avoid the problems or obstacles encountered earlier in the implementation of the system.

Sources said Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Saud Al-Harbi issued a directive for the instructors to present a comprehensive vision about the required training plan for teachers as soon as possible, and to focus on the shortterm for members of the teaching staff in the secondary and other academic levels — kindergarten, primary and intermediate. Sources confirmed the ministry’s keenness to incorporate e-learning and all of its dimensions into the educational process to achieve the desired goals and to create a generation capable of self-learning in order to keep pace with global developments.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health continues to intensify its preventive measures to deal with coronavirus by securing and enhancing stocks of medicines and medical supplies for a long period in light of expectations that the virus will continue to exist until next year, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.

Sources confirmed that the ministry recently obtained regulatory approvals for importing medicines, medical supplies and devices at a total cost of KD22.8 million to treat other diseases like diabetes, low or high blood pressure, cancer, respiratory, nervous system, digestive and blood diseases.

Sources disclosed the ministry intends to import 40 medical devices and their accessories for use in intensive care units, solutions and consumables for examining therapeutic drugs in medical laboratories, and consumables for analyzing blood samples. Sources said it is very important to procure these devices and supplies now to ensure there will be no obstacles to the provision of health care.

Sources added the ministry will also import anti-fungal drugs to treat fungal infections in the scalp, feet, nails and other parts of the body. Sources said the selection of drugs is carried out under the periodic and direct monitoring of department heads and other concerned ministry officials. Sources also affirmed stability of the stock of surgical masks and other protective equipment needed in the fight against coronavirus
