A number of sweet shop managers have expressed regret over the decline in sales witnessed in this holy month of Ramadan due to the rate of protective measures taken against the emergent coronavirus, reports Al- Seyassah daily.
They affirmed offering discount for some sweets due the stagnation, and are requesting property owners to waive the value of rent for candy shops or grant them 50 percent reduction In this context, manager of a candy shop in Kuwait City, Ahmad Al-Nandi, said there have been losses in this blessed month already, as sales in this period each year is very high, especially for sweets.
He pointed out that the sale of Nabulsi konafa loved by citizens and expatriates has dropped sharply due to the ban, because this type of konafa is eaten hot and the curfew starts at 4:00pm, so nobody patronizes it.
He stressed that they have made discount offers but the recession in the candy market still remains. He explained that work in morning, before the curfew, is not encouraging at all, given that their gain would only be through the sale of snacks for restaurants and bread for consumers in general.
He demanded that real estate owners waive the value of the rent for candy shops or give 50 percent discount due to the losses inflicted on them. Mohammad Zayed, a bakery and confectionery manager said, “Candy makers continue to record losses, especially in the blessed month, pointing out that sales were active only in the quality of konafa and raw grains that are cooked in homes, especially by expatriate families but Kuwaiti families always prefer the Nabulsi konafa and sweets sold in the best candy shops.
Zayed indicated, “If the situation continues this way, it will lead to the closure of most candy stores through successive losses resulting from measures instituted to protect against coronavirus and that’s why many candy factories have resorted to laying off workers.
