In a step aimed at preventing tampering with job titles and besieging marginal workers, the Public Authority for Manpower has begun implementing a new mechanism to check the educational qualifications of expatriates, and link them to the work permits issued to them, reports Al-Qabas daily. Informed sources said this mechanism will allow verifying the titles mentioned in the certificates, and linking them with the business titles issued to workers in the private sector, by approving qualifications and academic certificates sent to the Occupational Safety Center of the Manpower Authority.
The sources stated that specialized titles in the financial and banking sector and jobs related to financial and administrative affairs will be directly related to the certificates, and no resident will be allowed to obtain a professional job title without obtaining a certificate in the same specialization.
The sources added: “It will be possible for companies, through the Sahel application, to choose the name of those with qualifications according to the assessment of their own needs, and to change it according to the academic degrees of the employees working for them, without allowing their name to be contrary to what is stated in the qualifications.”
In addition, a report issued by the authority, a copy of which Al-Qabas obtained, revealed that 17,000 work permits for residents of the private sector had been revoked during the past year. The immigration report issued earlier by the Central Department of Statistics in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior revealed that the total number of residence permits granted to expatriates of all kinds during the past year amounted to 2,838,613 residences, an increase of 318 thousand residences compared to 2021.
According to the report, a copy of which has been obtained by Al-Qabas daily, the largest increase in annual residence permits was distributed between the domestic workers and private sectors, at a rate of 162,000 new residence permits for domestic workers and 165,000 for the private sector last year.
