Some MoE expats have no ‘iqama’.

The Ministry of Education has confirmed that some employees in various sectors do not hold a valid residency permit – a violation of the Residency Law, reports Al-Anba daily. Director of the Human Resources Department at the ministry Saud Al-Juwaiser sent a letter to the educational districts stating: “We would like to inform you that a group of expatriates, who are working in the ministry, have no valid residency.”

He cited Decree number 17 of 1959 regarding the residency of foreigners; stipulating that “it is prohibited to harbor, house or employ any foreigner who is staying in the country illegally.” He warned that such acts are considered a violation of the Residency Law. Al-Juwaiser called for the issuance of a circular to the principals of schools to periodically review the residency permit of their expatriate workers, so that the Interior Ministry will no longer notify them in this regard. He said the principals must immediately inform the Ministry of Education head office, particularly the Human Resources-Passports Department, if any employee has no valid residency.
