Kuwait calls on Iraq to finish demarcation.

Head of the Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation Member of Parliament (MP) Thamer Al-Dhufairi urged Iraq Saturday to complete the demarcation of the maritime borders between Kuwait and Iraq, and boosting Arab cooperation. Speaking at the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) 34th session, Al-Dhufairi expressed sincere condolences to Syrian and Turkish peoples over the earthquake victims. He stressed Kuwait’s solidarity with, and siding by, the two countries’ peoples in this plight. Despite major security challenges and tough conditions, Iraq managed by strong will and determination to achieve several economic, political and security victories that require from all Arabs to back the country in establishing its stability and sovereignty, Al- Dhufairi noted.

“We renewed our condemnation of all terror acts seeking to underestimate Iraq’s security and stability,” he said. He affirmed that the security and stability of Iraq is an integrated part of the Arab and Gulf national security as a whole. He said “we welcome the signing, by the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) on February 7, of five contracts with the company executing the electrical interconnection project between the Gulf countries and Iraq. He expressed hope that the success of these vital projects between the two countries would be accompanied by similar progress, including investment in infrastructure and transportation projects, in addition to promoting joint industrial capabilities and food security to achieve the common interests of “our countries and the welfare of our peoples”. He stressed the necessary of removing all points of tension and establishing a new culture in Arab relations that establishes unity, solidarity and joint action in a way that protects interests and sovereignty of all.

Stressing confidence in the Iraqi leadership and parliamentary elites, Al-Dhufairi called on Iraqi officials to seek to facilitate resolving the remaining issues with the neighboring countries that include continue negotiations with the Kuwaitis side to reach a final deal on demarcation of the maritime borders at the 162nd point to enhance the sisterly ties between the two countries. On the Palestinian cause, Al-Dhufairi affirmed the absolute belief in the justice and legitimacy of this cause, affirming support for all the options of the brotherly Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights. He urged the international community to move quickly to halt the continuous Israeli violations, provide full protection for Palestinians, and protect the city of Jerusalem from the illegal unilateral practices practiced by the “Zionist” entity and attempts aiming to obliterate “our identity”.

Since its independence, Kuwait has been adopting a moderate foreign policy, out of its legal, national and constitutional constants based on respect for the sovereignty of states, commitment to good neighborliness, adherence to international legitimacy and the rules of international law. Kuwait’s policy also seeks to back Arab solidarity in all forums to gain enhancement, he said, renewing enhancing the Arab relations and avoiding any disputes.
