Ukraine grateful for Kuwait support.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Oleksandr Palanotsa, praised the remarkable development of Ukrainian-Kuwaiti relations in recent years, as they went beyond the political aspect to include many aspects of bilateral cooperation such as culture, arts and sports, reports Al-Qabas daily. He indicated that he is in full and continuous contact with the Kuwaiti authorities to inform them of the latest developments on reality in his country.

This came in a press conference on the occasion of the visit of the Ukrainian international referee Miroslav Stobar and Vice President of Dynamo Club Oleksiy Semenenko to Kuwait, to participate in the presentation of a book about Valery Lobanovsky, the Ukrainian football coach who worked in Kuwait between 1994 and 1996.

Palanotsa appreciated Kuwait’s humanitarian and material support to his country through the United Nations, explaining that his country receives support from the international community as well, distributed between humanitarian and material aid and weapons.

He pointed out that despite the bitterness of the destruction that befell his country due to the Russian aggression, life continues in all its aspects, and expressed his optimism that the crisis will be resolved soon, praising the steadfastness of the Ukrainian people who do not want to leave their country. Palanotsa explained that sport is a bridge of communication between peoples and works to bring them closer and increase the space of understanding between them. He indicated that the book contains information that many Kuwaitis do not know, and it took about two years to search for information and pictures about Coach Lobanovsky. He added, “I visited many diwaniyas in search of this information, and I also invited many Kuwaiti players who lived with him, and I was surprised that they still remember some of his phrases in the Ukrainian dialect. He also contacted the Ukrainian Football Association and Dynamo Kyiv to collect as much information as possible about coach Lobanovsky.” The U.S. military’s new, expanded combat training of Ukrainian forces began in Germany on Sunday, with a goal of getting a battalion of about 500 troops back on the battlefield to fight the Russians in the next five to eight weeks, said Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Milley, who plans to visit the Grafenwoehr training area on Monday to get a first-hand look at the program, said the troops being trained left Ukraine a few days ago. In Germany is a full set of weapons and equipment for them to use. Until now the Pentagon had declined to say exactly when the training would start. The so-called combined arms training is aimed at honing the skills of the Ukrainian forces so they will be better prepared to launch an offensive or counter any surge in Russian attacks. They will learn how to better move and coordinate their company- and battalion-size units in battle, using combined artillery, armor and ground forces.
