Interview with Ms. ALMA TRISA SUNIL, CBSE Class XII topper from ICSK Kuwait., The well-known news portal in Kuwait recently had the opportunity of having a chat with Ms. ALMA TRISA SUNIL, one of the toppers of CBSE Class XII from Indian Community School of Kuwait.

Congratulations on your CBSE Class XII result! What are your feelings on this achievement?

It was quite unexpected I think because the 12th wasn’t the best year for all of us, there was a lot of physical and mental stress , because of the pandemic but I am happy that the results proved otherwise . a lot of kids got good marks so I am happy that I made to such thing .

Have you thought about your career plans yet?

Yes, I did write JEE in the middle of my models and then I also took the  VIT entrance exam and I passed it and applied for B.TECH BIOTECHNOLOGY .

The lockdown was announced in March and things changed. How did you prepare for your exams during COVID-19? How did it affect your preparation? What was the most striking thing during this preparation?

I think after lockdown began there was more time to prepare for studies because I had travel by city bus to go to school and then for tuition so a lot of time was being  spent, sitting at home I was able to utilize the time however there were some downsides because I had to stare at the screen for hours . In terms of preparation , because it was online a lot of teachers would sent us notes through an online WhatsApp group for studies.

What was your daily routine for Class XII exams before lockdown and after? How much time did you devote to self-study because coaching can only teach you but you have to do the work?

I think before pandemic before the school lockdown had much less activities we had more focused on the academics beginning of 12th but after lockdown started  we had exercise in the morning our school initiated programs such as tours , online activities  to engage students so that they wouldn’t continues focused on studies. So ya there were good sides to online education also in terms of displaying different activities online it was difficult in the beginning .

How was the preparation different from the early days to just a month before Class XII exam?

I think before lockdown there were a lot of teachers who knew how we did in our exams  based on how we wrote our test but because it was online it was hard to tell how truthful the kids did there exam and it was harder for teachers to tell whether the kids were actually studying so for me it was more pressurizing because I didn’t have an external pressure to tell so i became more lazy . I think a month before the exam our school teachers and tuition teacher would continuously give us  models , they would upload test online in our online platform so that we could sit and practice. I even had guides and tests . We had a lot of online tests.

What was your exam day strategy? What was the roughest and the easiest section according to you?

Yes , yes , because I had gone for tuitions and because we had school exam separately  there was this strategy  as we would divide the syllabus , study this portion that  portion , I think it was difficult because online , because I had so many things going on in my head , because of JEE , because of my college admission and stuff but other than that there was a fixed timetable to study and even than I would say online was difficult than otherwise .

Which college is your dream college for studying further ?

That’s hard. For now I am satisfied with VIT. I have chosen BART. I’ll be happy to do my further studies abroad, maybe still in Kuwait .

How did your family support you and motivate you during this stressful lockdown period? How did you de-stress during your preparation?

I think it was harder during lockdown because my mom works in covid ward I think there were more pressure in terms of that , I had to help her , I think what motivated me was the fact that my parents kept telling that I just had to do my best , that I didn’t have to pressure myself . there was a lot of pressure because I had to be you know to prove the 12 years of my schooling  , what all I learnt ,what all did so I had to get really good marks I have to test myself sometimes that involve me not eating properly me getting  physical and mental stress , my parents and my sibling  were there to support however they could , by saying that I just had to do my best and not prove to others that I was capable of scoring extremely higher marks.

What role did your school ICSK play in your successful achievement ?

I think the teachers played an important role , online teaching is not easy , first year , we are the first batch to have gone for online classes so its not easy to teach online there were a lot teachers who faced net issue , there were a lot of teacher who had so many problems but despite all that ,they made sure all the students did there works properly , every week we had timelines to submit we had test  , we had models teachers would make sure that we did our work perfectly , I even had teachers who would call and tell me all the mistakes I made in my exams that I wouldn’t  do it again even during our practical exam they just helped us a lot just making us comfortable , this was the first time we facing this type of situation , I guess our teachers helped us a lot.

What message do you have for students who are going to attend next year ?

Because we are the 1st batch ,it was harder for all of us. This wouldn’t be something that is new. I think my kids are used to it by now because you can’t tell when this is gonna stop and the world might change all of a sudden. You have to get used to it . You shouldn’t always be hoping for online studies ,even if it is offline schooling ,you should be able to understand the circumstance and do  your best, even though the circumstance doesn’t do you well and don’t be worried about your outcome. I think your efforts won’t let you down .

What is your future plan ?

Because I have taken BIOTECHNOLOGY , I will be attending my class from next month . I am hoping to continue my further studies in BIOTECHNOLOGY and either oppt for the genetic engineering part .
