‘Vaccines effective and safe’
The number of corona cases in the country will not decrease anytime soon as the infection curve is expected to continue to rise and reach 2,000 new cases daily, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources from the government sector. Sources said the health situation in the country is not reassuring; hence, the need for everyone to take the highest level of precaution, adhere to health regulations, practice social distancing, prevent gatherings and wear masks all the time. They also emphasized the need to vaccinate everyone against corona.
Sources indicated that the high rate of vaccination and strict compliance with health regulations will gradually reduce the rate of infection, provided the appropriate quantities of vaccines reach the country in succession. Sources said the increase in vaccination rate among various groups will have positive repercussions in terms of the number infections and deaths recorded in the country.
Sources added the Ministry of Health has managed to vaccinate more than 297,000 people so far – 6.9 percent of the population; asserting the pace of vaccination is likely to increase with the arrival of additional quantities of Oxford vaccine this month. Regarding the possible continuation of the rising infection rate despite the vaccination of more people, sources confirmed that the vaccines are effective and safe.
They explained that the effectiveness of vaccines in the human body can be felt within a period ranging from 14 to 21 days after the first dose, and in greater proportion after the second dose.
Sources added the increase in infection rate is not due to the speed of vaccination; as the causes include non-compliance with health regulations and continuation of gatherings. Sources pointed out that gatherings and contact with other people may decrease significantly once the partial curfew is imposed starting Sunday.
Sources went on to say that the spread of the virus in some countries could be due to the emergence of new strains. Sources confirmed the ministry is closely monitoring developments regarding the epidemic locally and internationally, asserting it is taking a number of preventive measures to ensure that the new strains of the virus will not reach the country.
