Farmers’ unions demonstrating against the three recently enacted agricultural laws and supporting groups observed a nationwide call for “Bharat Bandh” after several rounds of talks with the Centre proved inconclusive and opposing groups remained dissatisfied with the amendments to the agricultural legislations being proposed by the government so far. Demonstrations in favour of farmers’ demands were observed in several parts of the country with attempts in some states to block rail traffic. The call for strike was placed for a day ahead of what will be the sixth round of talks between farmers’ groups and the Central government on December 9.
