Kuwait approves import of American vaccine against COVID-19.

Following the announcement made by the US President Donald Trump about the availability of a vaccine to prevent COVID-19 within three to four weeks, Kuwait’s Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) has given the Ministry of Health the green light to complete necessary procedures for importing the vaccine, reports Al-Qabas daily.

According to reliable sources from the Ministry of Health, CAPT’s approval, which has been referred to the State Audit Bureau for the final approval, authorizes the ministry to reach an agreement with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) for the supply of doses of vaccines that will be officially approved after passing the clinical trials.

The sources said, “The Ministry of Health has allocated $ 18 million (KD 5.5 million) for the first set of vaccines that will be officially approved by the specialized international organizations. More than 1.7 million doses will be imported in the first phase for administering two doses per person. It will be administered on more than 854,000 individuals from the country’s population”.

They revealed that the first batch of vaccines is expected to arrive from more than 20 international companies that are currently testing the vaccine for COVID-19.
