Jleeb closure for several months led to psychological suffering, say residents

Smiles have finally returned to the faces of the residents of Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and the satisfaction can be seen written all over their faces following the removal of barriers after a long wait – Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh was one of the areas that were under total lockdown since March 11, 2020, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

They said they can now safely return to work, especially since most of them work at construction sites and a majority of them are daily wage workers. The daily toured the area and sought the views of a number of workers. Some of the workers who work in car repair garages say the closure of the Jleeb area for several consecutive months led to psychological suffering for most of the residents of the area, because they did not receive any salary during the lockdown period.

During the lockdown many of them said they had to wait patiently in queues for long hours to obtain food parcels – courtesy of charity societies. They explained the end of lockdown will allow them to earn their living and said hopes the ‘lockdown’ never happens again. Abu Ahmed stated he works for a big car company and a majority of the workers live in the Abbasiya area of Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh.

He pointed out the company stopped paying the salaries of employees from the time the area came under total lockdown. Hosni Abdeljawad believes the announcement of the end of lockdown of the region is a relief and brings joy to families and bachelors and hopes the ‘Corona’ crisis will end permanently and life returns to total normalcy.
