Air India Express Flight 814 Skids Off Runway While Landing at Mangaluru Airport, No Injuries Reported
Air India Express Express flight 814 on Sunday morning skids off the runway while landing at Mangaluru airport. The incident took place during the early hours of which the runway lights at the Mangaluru International Airport was damaged. However, there are no injuries reported so far. The authorities at the Managaluru Airport had towed the flight to the service station.
“Air India Express, flight 814 skidded off the runway while landing at Mangaluru Airport in early morning hours. Runway lights suffered damage,” news agency ANI tweeted.
Some reports suggest that its skilled pilots were able to immediately bring the Boeing 737 back to the “tabletop” runway’s centre line after the “momentary” skidding. The Times of India reported that the plane damaged few runway light but there was no damage to the plane and no injuries to people on board.
“At the time when the aircraft was about to touch down, there was a sudden gust of the wind and heavy rain. The aircraft skidded to the right momentarily after it touched down but got back to the centre line thereafter. There was no discomfort or injury to any passenger. Post arrival inspection of the aircraft revealed no damages,” Air India Express CEO Shyam Sunder was quoted by Time of India.
Five years ago at the same airport an Air India Express Flight 812, overshot the runway on landing after which it fell over a cliff and caught fire. In the tragedy, 160 passengers and six crew members on board died. The accident is termed as India’s one of the deadliest disaster, after the 1996 Charkhi Dadri mid-air collision, which killed 349, and the 1978 crash of Air India Flight 855, which killed 213 passengers including crew.0
